The new Toyota Crown Signia SUV:
The Toyota Crown Signia is one of the most luxurious cars the Japanese marque sells here in the States. The Crown Signia is just what Toyota USA calls this car. Elsewhere, it is better known as the Crown Estate. This station wagon-esque midsize SUV satisfies a unique niche in the American Toyota SUV lineup.
The Crown nameplate is pretty famous in Japan, but it’s relatively unknown here. The Signia is actually the second contemporary Crown model that Toyota USA offers. The first was the Toyota Crown sedan, which it is loosely based on.
Toyota Crown Signia Price List:
The Crown Signia comes in two trims for now: the XLE and Limited.
- XLE: $43,590
- Limited: $47,990
Toyota Crown Signia Interior:
The Crown Signia’s interior is pretty similar to its sedan counterpart. It evokes the premium nature of a Lexus, with a classy piano black trim, soft touch materials, leather upholstery, and all the bells and whistles that you expect in a luxury car.
Seats: As a luxury offering, the Toyota Crown Signia sports comfortable leather seats. The front seats are 8-way power-adjustable and equipped with heating and ventilation functions. The rear outboard seats are heated too. Both trim levels get two upholstery options: black and saddle tan.
Steering Wheel: The 2025 Toyota Crown Signia gets a heated leather-covered steering wheel.
Infotainment System: The Crown Signia features a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen display with wireless Android Auto and AppleCarPlay compatibility and a trial subscription to SiriusXM.
While the XLE includes a standard 6-speaker setup, the Limited trim features an 11-speaker JBL Premium Audio sound system with an amplifier and subwoofer.
Storage Space: The Crown Signia gets split flat-folding rear seats, which provide 68.8 cubic feet of cargo space when folded down in the XLE and 66.1 cubic feet in the Limited.
Climate Controls: The Crown Signia gets dual zone automatic climate control, rear seat vents, and pollen and dust filters in its standard equipment.
Signia Exterior Design:
The Signia is built on the same TNGA-K platform as the Crown sedan. Since it’s not an exact replacement for the Venza, it doesn’t try to mimic it. The Crown Signia kind of looks like a wagon—because it is. It’s just not advertised as one, and it actually makes a pretty decent undercover SUV.
The Signia sits pretty low and its unique styling makes it look taller than it actually is. It’s actually situated at the perfect height; you don’t have to put extra strain on your joints to climb in it like a sedan or climb up like an SUV.
Headlights: The Toyota Crown Signia gets LED projector headlights and DRLs with accent lighting.
Wheels and Tires: The Crown Signia XLE is equipped with standard 19-inch multi-spoke two-tone alloy wheels in a machine finish. The Limited trim sports dark gray metallic 21-inch 7-twin-spoke alloy wheels instead.
Side Mirrors: The 2025 Toyota Crown Signia is equipped with heated and powered outside mirrors equipped with turn signals and blind spot warning indicators.
An optional package for the Limited trim adds power folding, reverse tilt-down functions, and puddle lights to your side mirrors.
Roof: Both trims sport low-profile roof rails, but only the Limited trim gets a fixed panoramic glass roof with a powered sunshade.
Safety Features:
A comprehensive range of safety features, including Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 and the Star Safety System, come standard with the Toyota Crown Signia.
Braking System: The Crown Signia has ventilated, power-assisted 12.9-inch disc brakes up front. It sports 12.5-inch disc brakes with hydraulic brake boosters in the back.
Airbags: The Signia gets eight airbags, including front and rear curtain shield airbags, the driver and front passenger Advanced Airbag System, seat-mounted side airbags, and knee airbags.
Safety Ratings: The 2025 Toyota Crown Signia has not been crash tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration yet.
Powertrain Specifications:
Both Crown Signia trims get an efficient Toyota hybrid system with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors, which generates a combined output of 240 horsepower and 178 lb ft of torque. The Signia gets standard all-wheel drive and continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
The Signia has a towing capacity of up to 2,700 pounds.
Top Competitors:
The Crown Signia has a few major competitors that offer better powertrains or increased fuel efficiency. The Hyundai Tucson hybrid boasts a more powerful powertrain and a lower price, while the Honda CR-V Hybrid is more fuel-efficient. The Kia Sportage Hybrid is an excellent alternative as well, with comfortable interiors, a strong powertrain, and great fuel economy.
Or you could buy a new SUV from an actual luxury brand. The Lexus NX350h hybrid starts at a lower price than the Signia and gets basically the same powertrain. It doesn’t have the same level of luxury, though; you’ll have to buy the RX for that.
The Subaru Outback XT is one of the Signia’s top competitors, but the Toyota simply looks, feels, and drives nicer. If you don’t need the extra space of the Signia and are sceptical about its wagon-esque styling, the Toyota Crown will fit most of your requirements. If you want even more space, you could opt for the Toyota Highlander. If you prefer your midsize SUVs to be less luxurious, the Toyota RAV4 offers quite a bit of value.
Concluding Thoughts:
The Signia is a niche offering for those who want a luxury car at a bargain or for those who just want a nicer Toyota car.
