Take a look at the MS Dhoni Car Collection:
Cricketer MS Dhoni is well-known for his love of everything biking. But his car collection is certainly noteworthy as well. The MS Dhoni car collection includes many cars—some collectibles, others classics.
Dhoni is a well-known Indian cricketer known for his hard-hitting batting style. Born in Ranchi, the batsman and wicketkeeper began playing cricket in school and slowly batted his way up to international cricket. In Test matches, he has scored the highest number of sixes by an Indian captain and the most runs by an Indian wicketkeeper.
In the cricket world, Dhoni is widely regarded as the most successful Indian captain. He led the Indian team to victory in the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, the 2011 Cricket World Cup, the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, and the Asia Cup in 2010.
Did you know? Dhoni played football in school but switched to cricket at the insistence of his coach, Keshav Banerjee. Keep reading for a fun fact about Dhoni’s number-plates!
For MS Dhoni, net worth and cricket stats aren’t the only things that matter. The MS Dhoni car and bike collection features more vintage and historical vehicles than modern ones. Let’s take a look at the cars in Dhoni’s garage.
Hummer H2:
The most beloved cars aren’t often the best. The Amphicar was a safety hazard, the 300 SLR was rarely ever driven, and every MINI Cooper in India is, frankly, overpriced and underequipped. But the best cars are those that have great sentimental value. They’re the ones that, despite all those shortcomings, you can’t help but love.
The Hummer H2 is one of these cars. It’s not fun to drive. It’s massive and bulky, but when you drive it, you can’t help but be in awe.
The world first saw Dhoni’s Hummer when he drove it alongside the New Zealand team bus in 2016. The moment the Kiwis saw the monstrous car, the Hummer’s and MS Dhoni photos went viral on social media. The car has an imposing road presence and can take on any terrain with ease.
The Hummer H2 had short-lived success; it was popular but also controversial due to its incredibly poor fuel efficiency. Dhoni had the car imported and may have paid about INR 75 lakh, almost double its market price in the US.
1969 Ford Mustang:
The 1969 Ford Mustang was first seen in the back of a video Sakshi Dhoni posted to Instagram. The car had been spotted in Chennai before it became part of the MS Dhoni car collection.
This iconic muscle car seems to be in great condition, with most of its parts being stock ones. The 1969 Mustang Hardtop is a Mach I variant and features a 7.0-litre water-cooled ‘Cobra Jet’ V8 engine that produces 335 bhp of power.
According to Cartoq, the Mustang in the MS Dhoni car collection is actually a 1970s model that has been fitted with parts to look like a 1969 model. The site Motowag states that the car is priced at INR 40.77 lakh–2.22 crore. However, actual prices are dependent on the model and condition of the car.
1974 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am:
The Pontiac Firebird was a muscle car that directly competed with the Ford Mustang. This rare vintage beauty must have cost Captain Cool a pretty penny.
Sakshi Dhoni, the wife of MS Dhoni, received the car while he was away and posted a picture of it on Instagram. Dhoni’s red ‘74 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is equipped with a V8 Big Block Engine and a four-speed Muncie Hurst Shifter.
The price Dhoni paid for this car is currently unknown. According to a report by HT Auto, a similar car was sold for INR 68.31 lakh at an auction in Mumbai in November 2019. So Dhoni may have paid a similar amount or may have actually bought the same car from the auction.
1970 Land Rover Series 3:
As you may have noticed, Dhoni has a love for old and vintage cars. In an online auction in January 2022, Dhoni purchased a restored 1970 Land Rover Series 3. Big Boy Toyz organized this auction as part of their new Vintage & Classics division.
The final amount that Dhoni paid for the vintage Land Rover was not revealed to the public.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk:
In 2019, MS Dhoni became the first owner of a Grand Cherokee Trackhawk in India. The Trackhawk was the most powerful variant of the Grand Cherokee line and is considered one of the most powerful SUVs in India.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk gets a 6.2-litre supercharged Hellcat V8 engine that is capable of producing 707 bhp and 875 Nm of peak power and torque.
Jeep India specially imported the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk for Dhoni, and it is estimated to cost approximately INR 1.6 crore after customs and import duty.

Volkswagen Beetle:
This car belongs to Dhoni’s wife, Sakshi, who received it as an anniversary gift. She posted a picture of the car on Instagram. The vintage Beetle in the MS Dhoni car collection sports a lovely, dual-tone exterior paint finish and is in great condition.
A vintage Volkswagen Beetle may cost anywhere between INR 5 and 10 lakh or more. However, additional ownership costs, such as regular maintenance and sourcing original parts, may make this car expensive to own.
2000 Rover Mini Cooper Sport:
The 2000 Rover Mini Cooper Sport is also part of the MS Dhoni car collection. It gets a 1.3-liter 4-cylinder engine and produces 63 PS and 95 Nm of torque. The car was in production back when Rover still owned the Mini Cooper brand (BMW owns it now).
Dhoni’s red and white Mini Cooper Sport gets original bonnet stripes and 12-inch Minilite alloy wheels. It’s engine and fog lamps seem to be original too.
While the price of Dhoni’s 2000 Rover Mini Cooper Sport is unknown, a similar model was auctioned at Collecting Cars for €25,750, or approximately INR 23.43 lakh.
GMC Sierra:
The GMC Sierra isn’t a car; it’s actually a pickup truck. It is the only GMC Sierra in India and is another off-road vehicle in the MS Dhoni car collection.
General Motors sells a pickup truck named the GMC Sierra All Terrain. The Sierra All Terrain cost Dhoni approximately INR 70 lakh after taxes. It gets a 6.2-litre, naturally-aspirated V8 engine that can generate 414 bhp and 623 Nm of peak power and torque.
Nissan 4W73:
A modified Nissan 4W73 makes its way into the MS Dhoni car collection. This eye-catching car has some history behind it. You see, this model, the Nissan 4W73, was built for use in the Indian Army. It was originally based on the Dodge M37 Weapon Carrier.
The 1-Ton in Dhoni’s collection has been restored and modified by Punjab-based SD Off-roaders. The website cites the vehicle’s price at $51,999 or approximately INR 43.51 lakh Since Mahi is an honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army, using an ex-military vehicle suits him perfectly!
Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow:
This vintage beauty is one of the best-known cars in the MS Dhoni car collection. The Series 1 Silver Shadow gets a 6.75-litre V8 engine and a General Motors-sourced Hydramatic three-speed automatic gearbox.
The car sports a gorgeous dual-tone exterior with a deep blue body and light blue painted pillars, roof, hood, and boot. The interior features plush beige upholstery.
Depending on the specifications, the car is either a Silver Shadow or Silver Wraith II. The Silver Wraith is a long-wheelbase version of the Silver Shadow and is longer in the rear.
According to Classic.com, the average price of a Silver Shadow is $20,706 (INR 17.33 lakh), while that of the Silver Wraith is $20,697 (INR 17.32 lakh). Those prices are deceptively cheap. After you pay those import taxes, be prepared to shell out a small fortune for the car’s upkeep.
Audi Q7:
MS Dhoni owns an older model of the Audi Q7. It gets a powerful V6 turbocharged diesel engine capable of generating up to 242 bhp and 550 Nm of peak torque.
The first-gen Audi Q7 was a B-Town favorite and enjoyed a lot of popularity. Dhoni was often seen driving the car himself. The older model has now been discontinued and reportedly cost over INR 64 lakh. The car is most probably not a part of the MS Dhoni car collection any more, as it hasn’t been spotted in a while.
Mercedes-Benz GLE:
Dhoni has been spotted in a third-generation M-Class, now known as the Mercedes-Benz GLE. This car stays in Maharashtra and is used for Dhoni’s travel requirements within Mumbai. Dhoni has been spotted in the passenger seat of this car while on the way to the Mumbai airport.
The third-generation luxury SUV offers similar levels of comfort to the E-Class sedan. The latest generation Mercedes-Benz GLE is priced starting at INR 96.65 lakh.
Land Rover Freelander 2:
The Land Rover Freelander 2 was the first Land Rover to be assembled in India. The entry-level Rover got a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine that was capable of generating 148 Bhp and 420 Nm. Dhoni may have added this majestic SUV to the MS Dhoni car collection due to its muscular proportions and dauntless off-road capabilities.
The Freelander 2 was discontinued in 2014. It was priced between INR 35 and INR 48 lakh, ex-showroom.
Mitsubishi Pajero SFX:
Dhoni bought the Mitsubishi Pajero after his black Scorpio. Like many others on this list, the Pajero SFX is an off-road SUV through and through. The car doesn’t score any points for power or speed, but it will handle even the most difficult terrain with ease. Its strength lies in its reliability and its superb off-roading capabilities.
This workhorse has a last recorded price of INR 26.92 lakh, as it was discontinued in 2021.
HM Ambassador:
Everyone knows about the Hindustan Motors Ambassador. The car is the poster child of Indian cars of yesteryear. Though based on the British Morris Oxford Series III, the Ambassador was considered a true Indian car and was fondly nicknamed ‘the King of the Roads’.
Dhoni’s ambassador can be seen in the background of this Instagram post by Hardik Pandya (pictured above). Not much is known about when this car became a part of the MS Dhoni car collection. The Ambassador has an estimated price of INR 4.37–5.42 lakh, but in reality, it may sell at much cheaper prices.
The HM Ambassador was beloved by politicians and government officials but is quite difficult to own today due to a lack of original parts, rust issues arising due to its sheet metal body, and outdated technology and mileage.
Mahindra Scorpio:
Dhoni’s first car was a black-colored Scorpio. This was when his career had just begun to take off, and he was frequently photographed while driving the sturdy SUV. Perhaps that’s why Mahindra decided to gift Mahi with a modified Mahindra Scorpio in February 2007.
The Scorpio in the MS Dhoni car collection features extensive customizations on the exterior and interior. Let’s start from the outside. The Scorpio gets an open roof and roll bars for safety. Though the Scorpio is originally a 5-seater, Dhoni’s car gets four identical pilot seats. The car gets red highlights and an MS logo in place of its regular Scorpio branding.
The Mahindra Scorpio was one of India’s bestselling SUVs back in 2007 and still enjoys quite a bit of popularity today. It is priced at INR 16.64–21.21 lakh.
Did you know?
Dhoni has an obvious preference for the number 7. His birth date is the seventh day of the seventh month; his jersey number is always 007; and this preference extends to his cars as well.
Back in the day, license numbers 1 to 10 were reserved for government vehicles. Yet, at his insistence, Dhoni was allowed to use the number 7 for his first car’s numberplate. Even his Mitsubishi Pajero has a JHK 05Q 0007 numberplate, and the sum of his Hummer H2’s plate, DL 1T Y6161, is also 7.
Land Rover Defender 110 by Kahn Classic:
Project KAHN® is an automotive fashion house that offers bespoke and modified automobiles to a select few. MS Dhoni was spotted in a black Defender 110 with a Kahn X-Lander grille. The grille by itself costs INR 76,440, including VAT.
The Land Rover Defender 110 gets a V8 engine and is the second Defender Dhoni owns. It is speculated to be the same Kahn-kitted car spotted in Mumbai, which also features Chelsea Truck Co. branding. The Land Rover Defender costs INR 97 lakh to 2.85 crore in India.
Kia EV6:
The Kia EV6 is the first all-electric car in the MS Dhoni car collection. The EV6 gets a futuristic design and up-to-date tech with an electric motor capable of producing up to 225 kW and 605 Nm of peak power and torque.
The EV6 is Kia’s flagship car in India and one of its most popular models. It is available in two variants: a 58 kWh battery with an RWD single motor that produces 226 bhp and 350 Nm, and an AWD variant with a 77.4 kWh battery that generates 321 bhp and 605 Nm.
The Kia EV6 is priced starting at INR 61 lakh.
Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG:
Two words define the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon: Cult Classic.
Despite having all the aerodynamic abilities of a brick, the car is simply too iconic to be discontinued. Mercedes has successfully sold the beloved G-Wagon for decades, and what it lacks in speed, it makes up for with sheer power and durability.
It’s no surprise that Dhoni owns a G-Wagon, as this may be one of the most well-known off-road SUVs ever produced. The black Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG in the MS Dhoni car collection gets a 0007 numberplate and thick 20-inch tires. If there’s anyone who can push a G-Class to its limits and get the most out of this off-road beast, it’s Dhoni!
Dhoni may have paid upwards of INR 3.3 crore for his Mercedes-Benz G63. The car was first spotted in an Instagram post by Dhoni’s tennis partner, Sumeet Kumar Bajaj.
Honorable Mentions
Plymouth De Luxe:
In the background of this video, at timestamp and *timestamp, we see two vintage cars parked next to each other. The one on the right is clearly a Hindustan Motors ambassador. But which car is the one on the left?
This car has never been mentioned in discussions of the MS Dhoni car collection. The car’s distinctive tires and front gave away its identity. It is most likely a Plymouth De Luxe / Special De Luxe. It is hard to figure out the exact make and model of the car from a short, blurry video like this. We hope Captain Cool takes this vintage beauty out for a ride sometime soon!
Citroen C3 Aircross:
Citroen India has announced that MS Dhoni will now be the face of the French carmaker in India. The move seems to be a strategic one, with a bid to increase Citroen’s popularity in the country.
The brand also released a limited-run C3 Aircross Dhoni Edition. Only 100 units of this car will be sold. These Citroen cars get ‘Dhoni’ decals and a rich blue color palette. The Dhoni Edition Citroen C3 Aircross is priced at INR 11.82 lakh. There aren’t any Citroen cars in the MS Dhoni car collection, but that may change in the future.
Toyota Corolla:
In 2007, Dhoni received a champagne-colored Toyota Corolla from Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda. The car was a ‘surprise gift’ given after India won the T20 World Cup. The Toyota Corolla was a popular car in 2007 and was even considered a luxury car due to its price.
The Corolla is one of the most popular sedans in the world. In 2017, the Toyota Corolla’s on-road price was between INR 9 and 12.21 lakh. However, the car is no longer in production and has never been spotted in the MS Dhoni car collection.
Alto 800 & Alto K10:
In 2016, Maruti Suzuki India launched special Dhoni-inspired versions of the Alto800 and AltoK10. This launch was due to Maruti’s association with the MS Dhoni movie ‘M S Dhoni: The Untold Story’.
The special edition cars got MS Dhoni signature decals, special body graphics, and sporty seats with the cricketer’s jersey number ‘7’.
