Introducing the New Thar 5-Door: The Mahindra Thar Roxx:

Mahindra has finally launched the 5-door, 5-seater Thar in India. The Mahindra Thar Roxx joins the well-loved Thar family and signifies Mahindra’s aspirations to take over the midsize SUV segment.

The 5-door Thar Roxx is offered in petrol and diesel engines with the choice of manual or automatic transmission. There are a total of 18 available variants across 6 trim levels. Mahindra has only revealed prices for the entry-level RWD variants. The base petrol variant is priced at ₹12.99 lakh, while the diesel one starts at ₹13.99 lakh.

In this blog, we’ll take a look at the exterior and interior styling of the Mahindra Thar Roxx as well as the feature list of each of its variants.

Thar Roxx Exterior Features:

The MX1 and MX3 are offered in three exterior paint shades: Everest White, Stealth Black, and Tango Red. The remaining variants get the following additional color options: Burnt Sienna, Nebula Blue, Forest Green, and Battleship Grey. All variants feature a matte black metal roof.

The Mahindra Thar Roxx also gets brawny exterior styling similar to that of the 3-door Thar. However, it has a wider stance and a more commanding street presence. Chunky, angular wheel arches, diamond-cut alloys, and a dual-tone hardtop-style roof are the Roxx’s distinguishing features. A washer and wiper and crescent-shaped taillamps adorn the rear.

Thar Roxx Comfortable Interior Features:

The Thar Roxx comes with the same dashboard as the 3-door Thar. Higher variants come equipped with soft-touch materials on the doors and dash. The interior follows a dual-toned beige and dark brown theme.

Powertrain Specifications:

The Mahindra Thar 5 door is available with the choice of two engines. The first is a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, while the second is a  2.2-liter CRDI diesel engine. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual and a six-speed torque converter unit on all variants. Only diesel variants of the Mahindra Thar Roxx come with 4WD.

Mahindra Thar Roxx MX:

The MX1 is the base variant in the Mahindra Thar Roxx line-up. Let’s take a look at its list of features.

Comfort:

• The base variant is equipped with rear AC vents and 60:40 folding rear seats, which means they will remain standard through all variants. The MX1 comes with analog dials for the instrument cluster, powered front and rear windows, and remote central locking.
• Also included are a 12 V socket, a rear USB-C port, a sunglasses holder, and luggage net hooks in the boot. The MX1 features a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display paired to a 4-speaker system. This variant gets premium embossed fabric upholstery, height-adjustable front seatbelts, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, a font-sliding armrest, a side footstep, and ISOFIX seat anchorages

Added Tech and Features:

• The MX1 gets push-button start features, as well as engine start/stop and electric power steering. It comes with standard Watt’s Link suspension, tire direction monitoring system, and frequency-dependent damping.
• The base Thar Roxx is equipped with standard all-LED lighting, which includes LED projector headlamps and taillamps. The car is fitted with R18 steel wheels and steering-mounted controls.

Thar Roxx Safety:

All Thar Roxx variants are equipped with 6 airbags as standard. The MX1 includes 3-point seatbelts, Electronic Stability Control, seat belt reminders, and a brake locking differential for added safety.

The MX3 variant is equipped with all the features from the MX1, plus the following:

Comfort:

• The MX3 is equipped with auto-dimming IRVM, 2 USB ports, and wireless charging. It features a rear armrest equipped with cup holders and a one-touch-powered driver window. 

Added Tech and Features:

• The MX3 comes with a 10.25-inch HD infotainment display with wired AppleCarPlay and wireless Android Auto. This variant comes with two drive modes: Zip and Zoom, and three terrain modes: Mud, Snow, and Sand.

• This Mahindra Thar Roxx model also gets Cruise Control, Gen II Adventure statistics, a spare wheel cover, an electric ORVM, a rear windshield wiper, and a rear defogger.

Safety:

• The Roxx MX3 comes with standard hill hold control, hill descent control, and traction control. The petrol variant with automatic transmission comes with four disc brakes.

Thar Roxx MX3 Price in India:

The MX3 is available with a petrol engine with automatic transmission and a diesel engine with either automatic or manual transmission.

Mahindra Thar Roxx AX3L:

The AX3L comes with more advanced comfort and technology features. It offers the following features in addition to the ones available on the MX3:

Comfort:

• The AX3L comes with an acoustic windshield, which prevents road and engine noise from entering the cabin. It is also equipped with fully automatic climate control. Along with automatic headlamps and wipers, you also get 2 USB ports for added convenience.

Added Tech and Features:

• The Thar Roxx AX3L comes with a dual-screen setup: a 10.25-inch infotainment with wireless AppleCarPlay and Android Auto support and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. It also has DTS sound staging, Adrenox Connect, and a built-in Alexa.

Safety:

• The AX3L features a Level 2 ADAS suite and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold technology.

Mahindra Thar Roxx MX5:

The MX5 variant comes with the following features in addition to the ones available on the MX3.

Comfort:

• Inside, the MX5’s seats are crafted from soft-touch leatherette and the steering wheel is leather-wrapped. It also comes with a standard acoustic windshield and footwell lighting.

Added Tech and Features:

• The MX5 is equipped with a standard single-pane sunroof, automated headlamps and wipers, and R18 diamond-cut alloy wheels. This variant also gets 2 tweeters: a type of small car speaker that emits high frequencies of the audio spectrum. Tweeter speakers can vastly improve the sound quality of a car’s audio system.

Safety:

• This variant includes LED DRLs and front fog lamps. A tire pressure monitoring system and front park sensors provide your Thar Roxx with added safety. AWD variants are also equipped with a standard electric locking differential.

Thar Roxx MX5 Price in India:

The MX5 is offered in all possible engine and drivetrain configurations except the diesel 4×4 with automatic transmission.

Mahindra Thar Roxx AX5L:

Comfort:

• The AX5L comes with two USB ports and fully automatic climate control.

Added Tech and Features

• The AX5L features dual 10.25-inch screens, which create a widescreen digital cockpit. One screen features the infotainment, which gets wireless Android Auto and AppleCarPlay along with a built-in Alexa and Adrenox Connect. The other screen displays the digital instrument cluster. Also included in the standard equipment is DTS sound staging.

Safety:

• This variant features Level 2 ADAS and an electric parking brake. You get CrawlSmart and Intelliturn too, but only with AWD variants.

Mahindra Thar Roxx AX5L Price in India:

The Mahindra Thar Roxx AX5L is offered with a diesel RWD. Both options only get automatic transmission, but you can choose between RWD and All-Wheel Drive (4×4).

Mahindra Thar Roxx AX7L:

The AX7L gets the following features in addition to the ones available on the MX5.

Comfort:

• The Thar Roxx AX7L features ventilated front seats, leatherette trim on the door and instrument panel, and fully automatic temperature control. You get a cooled glove box, 2 USB ports, and a 6-way powered driver’s seat too.

Added Tech and Features:

• The AX7L is equipped with a large panoramic sunroof, power-folding ORVM, and R19 diamond-cut alloy wheels. The Mahindra Thar Roxx AX7L comes with a 9-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. 

Safety:

• The AX7L is equipped with a 360-degree parking camera, an electric parking brake, and Level 2 ADAS features. Additionally, all-wheel-drive variants come equipped with CrawlSmart and Intelliturn technology.

The AX7L is offered in all possible engines and transmission options except a petrol engine with manual transmission.

How to Buy the Thar Roxx:

The Mahindra Thar Roxx has been launched, but it isn’t available for sale just yet. The company has stated that online bookings will start on October 3, close to the Diwali festive season. Test drives for the Roxx will commence on 14 September.
