The BMW S 1000 RR is one of the top 10 Superbikes in India. That’s not just due to BMW’s prestige: the bike’s first version launched in 2009 was considered the most powerful, well-equipped, and best in its segment. Now, several years later, BMW has continued to consistently update the S 1000 RR, and it continues to enjoy an immensely popular status.
BMW S 1000 RR: The Revised 2023 version
The 4 th generation revised model has gone through a host of changes in tech, design, and build. Let’s go through the most prominent revisions.
For one, the BMW S 1000 RR new riding position may take some getting used to. Inspired by the M 1000 RR, it sports aero winglets, a lifted cylinder head, and Nissin brakes. The new model features increased power at 207 bhp at 13,750 rpm, and torque stays the same as before but peaks higher at 11,000 rpm. Electronic Marzocchi suspension and new tech like the valve ShiftCam system make it easier to harness the bike’s raw power.
The top speed of the BMW S 1000 RR is an impressive 303 km/hr. New riding modes, added electronic assistance systems and lean-sensitive traction control make it safer to ride.
The BMW S 1000 RR: An Aerodynamic and Aggressive Design
The BMW S 1000 RR retains its original charm, with new features and design modifications bumping up its X factor. The 2023 version
The bike’s aluminum Flex Frame build utilizes a framework of four aluminum pieces welded together and the integrated engine is used as a stressed member. The newly optimized Flex Frame offers increased lateral flexibility. This makes it easier to ride over bumpy surfaces, however, the broader and flatter seat in the 2023 version may make the task easier said than done. Head to the ‘Comfort’ section to read more about how the S 1000 RR handles on India’s uneven roads.
Changes to the chassis include a longer wheelbase, rake and trail with increased ride height and decreased fork offset. The bike features openings in the side spars and the steering head, engine mounts and top tube have been reduced in weight, representing an 11-kg reduction in weight from the previous 2019 model. The front aero wings and offset decals give the S 1000 RR an aerodynamic yet aggressive and modern appearance.
BMW S 1000 RR : Innovative Tech and Intuitive Features
The lightweight chassis gets more flexible, and new electronics and geometry elevate the 2023 BMW S 1000 RR to a whole other level. It features an updated slide-control system, multiple riding modes and multiple screen display modes as well.
The standard model includes useful features such as Bluetooth Connectivity, Dynamic Brake Control, Dynamic Traction Control, Dynamic ESA, Hill Start Control, Integral ABS, Torque Control Assist, Electronic Immobilizer and Gear Shift Assist Pro. The Premium Package comes with even more racetrack-optimized features like Dynamic Damping Control, Pit Lane Limiter, and Launch Control. Also included are heated grips and cruise control.
If you’re not tech savvy, the S 1000 RR can be a bit overwhelming at first. Try to familiarize yourself with the menus and the various riding modes. By trying them out under different conditions, and by adjusting various settings, you’ll be able to find what works best for you.
The BMW S 1000 RR standard model comes with 4 riding modes: Rain, Road, Dynamic and Race. A Ride Modes Pro upgrade unlocks 3 more: Race Pro 1, 2, and 3.
BMW S 1000 RR: Comfort and Convenience
It’s efficient, it’s streamlined, and it’s a speed demon. But is it comfortable? That depends on what you deem comfortable to be. The broad and thin seat is quite hard and while that may be essential to a greater feel on racetracks, it becomes quite tiresome for long rides.
The Marzocchi forks make the bike more agile but the damping feels a bit too firm. The S 1000 RR will make you constantly aware of terrible road conditions, always bobbing over bumps and irregularities. It can also get quite hot at times, especially if you’ve been driving for more than an hour or in heavy traffic.
The higher seating position is quite roomy and gives you a bit more leg room than competitors like the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R.
BMW S 1000 RR: Performance On-Road
The BMW S 1000 RR offers a remarkably comfortable riding experience. It is lightweight and easy to steer but it is also stable with remarkable traction control. Experienced riders will find this bike easy to navigate with a level of sophistication and refinement that is quite simply awe-inspiring. A word of caution: if you’re thinking of getting the BMW S 1000 RR as your first bike, don’t. This powerful litre bike is not for the inexperienced rider. Expensive maintenance and insurance aside, this 1000-cc bike is powerful and things can go south very quickly if you lose control.
The bike’s standard version comes with die-cast aluminum wheels, but with the M Package, you can opt for carbon fiber or forged aluminum ones. Carbon fiber wheels are extremely strong, light, and durable, and can provide increased dampening of road noise. However, while alloy wheels bend under pressure, carbon fiber doesn’t and can shatter under high impact. Not many riders are enthusiastic about using these expensive wheels on Indian roads.
BMW S 1000 RR: Colors and Customization
The BMW S 1000 RR is available in three enigmatic color schemes. Black Storm Metallic features an all-black look with a red and white RR decal. Style Passion features racing red and embodies pure passion and performance. The Light White/M Motorsport, with its classic red, white and blue, is ever-iconic and timeless. The latter is only available in the Pro M Sport Variant.
