Tundra Interior Design:
The Toyota Tundra boasts an accessible and clean interior layout. Passenger space is generous; the available sunroof and rear window can create an airy and pleasant atmosphere when open. All Tundras, even the base models, get solid, quiet interiors that blend a robust work truck-like feel with intuitive, modern controls.
The higher-level trims are fitted with more luxurious materials to give them a premium appeal. The Limited trim adds a soft touch material to the dashboard and door panels instead of plastic, while Capstone and the 1794 Edition get more premium dark American Walnut wood.
Bed: The Toyota Tundra offers beds in long (8.1 ft), standard (6.6 ft), and short (5.6 ft) sizes. The standard bed is available for both Double Cab and CrewMax models; however, the short bed is exclusive to the former, while the long bed is only compatible with the latter.
The 21-inch-deep beds are made from sheet-molded composite, a strong and durable material that provides greater impact strength than aluminum. These beds won’t scratch, rust, or dent easily like the aluminum beds found on competitors.
Seats: The Toyota SR and SR5 get fabric-trimmed 4-way adjustable seats. Opting for the Limited trim gets you SofTex® upholstery and 8-way power-adjustable front seats with power-adjustable lumbar support.
The Platinum and the 1795 Edition are equipped with high-quality leather seats. The TRD Pro comes with standard TRD Pro SofTex® seats with unique camo-patterned inserts and contrast stitching. The most expensive Capstone trim features semi-aniline leather and premium contrast stitching.
While the SR5 gets optional front seat heating, the Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro, and Capstone get both seat heating and ventilation functions, as well as a center armrest with cup holders.
Steering Wheel: Platinum, 1794 Edition, and Capstone trims get standard heated steering. The function is also available on the SR5 and Limited trims as part of an optional package.
Infotainment System: The Toyota Tundra gets a standard 14-inch infotainment touchscreen display on most trim levels. Only the SR and SR5 get an 8-inch screen instead, with the option to upgrade to a larger screen. All entertainment systems get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity along with a Platinum plan SiriusXM trial subscription.
Depending on the variants, base models get a 6 or 9 speaker setup. More expensive trims are equipped with the 12-speaker JBL Premium Audio system.
Storage Space: The CrewMax variants get additional rear storage in the interior. The Toyota Tundra has plenty of small storage compartments and underseat storage. The large center console provides you with additional storage cubbies.
Climate Controls: The Toyota Tundra gets dual-zone automatic climate control as standard, with individual temperature settings for the front passenger and driver. Only the SR and SR5 get single-zone automatic climate control with air filtration instead.
Tundra Exterior Design:
The 2024 Tundra gets brawny, muscular styling, which displays its tough and rugged nature. The car is built with lightweight aluminum and tough steel for enhanced safety and strength. A wide athletic stance, powerful front grille, and thick bumper show off the Tundra’s imposing silhouette.
Body Colors: The Toyota Tundra is offered in these paint options, depending on the trim you choose: Ice Cap, Lunar Rock, Celestial Silver Metallic, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Midnight Black Metallic, Solar Octane, Supersonic Red, and Blueprint.
The Toyota Tundra SR5 gets an optional SX package that gives your Tundra a bold and mysterious look, with black body trim and dark gray metallic wheels. The inside gets black accents as well as black fabric seats. The debadged door and tailgate lend your Tundra a minimalistic and sleek appearance.
Headlights and taillights: The SR, SR5, and Limited trims come with LED headlights and DRLs with manual leveling adjustment. The remaining trims sport auto-on/off premium LED headlights and DRLs with automatic leveling adjustment and sequential turn signals.
The TRD Pro is an exception and sports a trim exclusive Heritage-Inspire grille with Toyota logo typography, integrated with an LED light bar and marker lights.
Wheels and Tires: Each Tundra trim comes equipped with a unique set of wheels. The base trim SR gets 18-inch steel wheels, the SR5 gets 18-inch alloy wheels, and the Limited bumps that size up to 20-inch alloys.
The Platinum gets 20-inch alloy wheels in a dark gray finish, the 1794 Edition gets 20-inch machined alloys, and the TRD Pro comes with forged-aluminum BBS® 18-inchers with Falken WILDPEAK all-terrain tires.
Side Mirrors: The Tundra sports heated and powered outside mirrors. From the Limited trim and up, all Tundras get a reverse tilt-down function, as well as turn signal and blind spot warning indicators.
The optional black heated power tow mirrors are auto-dimming and equipped with turn signals, blind spot warning indicators, and powered folding and extending functions.
Windows: The Tundra CrewMax variants feature a full-width rear window. The powered window opens and closes with a single button push. It’s great for maximizing ventilation in the cabin or providing pets with a better view.
Roof: Toyota Tundra trims from the Platinum and up get a powered tilt slide panoramic moonroof with a powered sunshade shields you from direct sunlight when required.
Safety Features:
As with most Toyota models, the Tundra gets many standard safety features and is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 and the Star Safety System.
Braking System: The Toyota Tundra gets power-assisted and ventilated 13.9-inch front disc brakes equipped with opposed dual-piston brake calipers. It comes with 13.6-inch ventilated disc brakes with single-piston calipers in the rear.
All trims get a standard Electronically Controlled Braking (ECB) system. The 1794 Edition gets an ECB system with integrated regenerative braking.
Airbags: All Tundras get 8 airbags, including knee, curtain, and driver and passenger side airbags.
Safety Ratings:
The Toyota Tundra wins 2024 Top Safety Pick in the large pickup category, with largely good ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It also gets a five out of five star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Powertrain Specifications: The 2024 Toyota Tundra gets three powertrain options, all of which are based on a V6 engine. No V8 option on a truck does sound sacriligious, but the V6 does a powerful and more fuel-efficient job.
- A 3.5-liter i-FORCE twin-turbocharged V6 engine with 405 lb ft of torque and 358 horsepower powers the SR.
- The same i-FORCE engine, retuned to generate 389 horsepower and 479 lb ft of torque, powers the SR5, Limited, and 1794 Edition.
- The TRD Pro and Capstone trims are equipped with i-FORCE MAX Toyota hybrid technology. They feature the same V6 engine mated to an electric motor, which generates 437 hp and 583 lb ft of torque.
All variants get 10-speed automatic transmission with rear wheel drive (RWD), with the choice of optional 4WD.
Toyota Tundra Towing Capacity:
The Tundra has a maximum towing capacity of 12,000 pounds—enough to meet the requirements of more truck owners.
It can also carry up to 1,940 pounds of payload.
Top Competitors:
Even the top trims of the Toyota Tundra don’t provide the luxury and ride quality of the Ram 1500. It also falls behind in towing capacity: both the Ford F-150 and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 tow way more, at 14,000 and 13,300 pounds, respectively.
While Toyota USA offers a diverse lineup of two cab styles, three bed sizes, and seven trims, it’s nowhere near the number of choices that Detroit’s Big Three offer.
